Dr. Sharifah Halimah Jaafar is a senior consultant obstetrician and gynecologist with over 25 years of expertise in managing a wide range of gynecological conditions, from routine cases to the most complex. A highly accomplished and skilled surgeon, she specializes in advanced laparoscopic and robotic gynecological surgery across various indications. Her special focus is in Endometriosis surgery.
Dr. Sharifah’s journey to becoming a senior consultant obstetrician and gynecologist is marked by extensive training and hands-on experience. She earned her medical degree (M.D) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1991 and completed her Master’s in Obstetrics & Gynecology in 2001. Since 2003, she has been at the forefront of operative laparoscopy, receiving hands-on training from renowned experts globally and locally. Notably, she completed advanced gynecologic laparoscopic training at the IRCAD Training Centre in Taiwan (2014) and attained international accreditation with the ISGE Bachelor in Minimally Invasive Surgery in 2018. She further honed her expertise through a Master’s Course in Pelvic Anatomy and the Surgical Management of Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Arnaud Wattiez, accredited by the European Society of Gynecological Endoscopy. Most recently, in 2023, Dr. Sharifah was certified as an Intuitive Robotic Surgeon in Gynecology by Intuitive da Vinci Robotic Surgery. She performs approximately 300-400 advanced laparoscopic surgeries annually and has conducted nearly 100 robotic surgeries, ranging from routine to highly complex procedures.
Dr. Sharifah’s leadership extends beyond her surgical skills. She is the founder and President of the Advanced MIS, Robotic & Ablation Society of Gynaecologists Malaysia (AMRAS), an organization that advocates for the adoption of advanced technologies in women’s healthcare. She has also held prominent roles, including being a council member of OGSM, chairperson of the OGSM Gynae-Endoscopic Subcommittee (2023/2024), and honorary secretary of the Gynaecological Endoscopy Society of Malaysia.
Her commitment to advancing gynecological care extends to her passionate mentorship of the next generation of gynecologists. Through her leadership, she inspires and encourages young professionals in Malaysia and Johor to pursue skill development in laparoscopic and robotic surgery, ensuring the continued excellence of women’s healthcare.
