Dr. Sharifah Halimah Jaafar is a Senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with over three decades of clinical and surgical experience, managing a wide spectrum of women’s health conditions from routine care to highly complex gynaecological disorders. She is a highly accomplished surgeon with subspecialty expertise in advanced minimally invasive surgery, including 3D laparoscopic and robotic gynaecological procedures, with a primary clinical focus on advanced endometriosis surgery and complex multi‑organ disease.
She obtained her Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1991 and completed her Master of Obstetrics & Gynaecology in 2001. Since 2003, she has been actively involved in operative laparoscopy, undergoing extensive hands‑on training with both international and local experts, including advanced gynaecologic laparoscopic training at the IRCAD Training Centre in Taiwan (2014) and international accreditation with the ISGE Bachelor in Minimally Invasive Surgery in 2018. She further honed her expertise through a Master’s Course in Pelvic Anatomy and the Surgical Management of Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Arnaud Wattiez, accredited by the European Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (ESGE). In March 2023, she became a certified Intuitive da Vinci Robotic Surgeon in Gynaecology. She performs approximately 300–400 advanced laparoscopic procedures annually and, as of December 2025, has completed over 400 robotic surgeries, ranging from routine to highly complex procedures.
Beyond her surgical practice, she is the Co‑Founder and President of the Advanced Minimally Invasive, Robotic & Ablation Society of Gynaecologists Malaysia (AMRAS), an organisation dedicated to elevating surgical standards and promoting innovation in gynaecology. Her previous leadership roles include Council Member of the College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, Academy of Medicine Malaysia (COGAAM), Chairman of the OGSM Gynae‑Endoscopic Subcommittee (2023–2024), and Assistant Honorary Secretary of the Gynaecological Endoscopy Society of Malaysia (GESM). She also serves as a Scientific Committee Member of the ASEAN Society of Gynaecologic Robotic Surgery (ASGRS) since 2024.
A passionate mentor and educator, she is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of surgeons. Through teaching, training, and advocacy, she continues to inspire young gynaecologists to pursue excellence in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, ensuring sustained advancement in women’s healthcare across Malaysia and the wider region.
